Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for Mopar 727/904 Shifter.

1.   This shifter is designed to be tight so it won’t move when you hit or get hit. For best results use stud head bolts for mounting the shifter. If none are available they can be made using a piece of 3/8 ready rod with a couple of nuts. After installing stud head bolts in the top two holes of the transmission tail shaft housing. Install the shifter using 3/8 flat washers and 3/8 nuts to make this installation. Locknuts can be used if desired especially if the car is to be run numerous times before removal. The sheet metal should be cut to allow for bending of the car. I would leave at least a few inches of space around all moving parts of the shifter and linkage. Keep in mind when installing your cage the front pipe could cause interference with the shifter handle if mounted too far rearward in the car. Make sure to mount your front pipe as close to the firewall as possible. You may want to test fit the shifter on the trans. After it has been installed in the car prior to cage installation. The stock shifter pawl is utilized in the installation of this shifter. The stock hole will need to be bored out to 3/8”. The linkage rod will then go through the enlarged hole use the cotter pin and flat washer provided with the shifter to make this installation. If adjustment becomes necessary this can be done by removing the cotter pin at the rear of the shifter linkage and loosening the 2 jam nuts and turning the threaded portion of the linkage assembly in or out to make the transmission shift correctly. Adjustment should be checked every time you get ready to go on the track. By starting the car and making sure the gears are there as needed. When the unit is being used on the track the lock out pin should be installed and it should be removed when the car is being worked on or when it is being trailered. Use the bracket provided on the right hand side of the stick for storage of your lockout pin. If during the life of the shifter it becomes too loose or too tight the locknut located on the side of the shifter mechanism can be tightened or loosened.

*** Other Mopar products available from M.O.P. Derby products are Block mounted gas pedals and transmission cooler installation kits.

*Extra linkage rods are available from M.O.P Derby Products for 10.00.

Installation instructions for Turbo 350/375/400 Shifter.

Important safety!!! Make sure all adjustments are done with tires blocked, engine not running, and all bystanders should be a safe distance away from the car.

1.   This shifter is designed to be tight so it won’t move when you hit or get hit. For best results use stud head bolts for mounting the shifter bracket. They usually can be found on the side of the tail shaft housing to hold up the catalytic converter bracket. Otherwise if none are available they can be made using a piece of 3/8 ready rod with a couple of nuts. After installing stud head bolts in the top two holes of the transmission tail shaft housing. Install the shifter using 3/8 flat washers and 3/8 nuts to make this installation. Locknuts can be used if desired especially if the car is to be run numerous times before removal. Make sure to mount your front pipe as close to the firewall as possible. You may want to test fit the shifter on the trans. After it has been installed in the car prior to cage installation. The front portion of the linkage should be mounted with the linkage rod above the shifter pawl on the transmission. Make sure the linkage bracket is installed correctly on the shifter pawl or failure could occur. A 3/8 nc nut should be used for this installation. To adjust the shifter you will need to place the transmission in reverse then move the shifter handle forward til it hits the lockout pin. At this time hook your linkage to the shifter. This can be done by turning the adjustment button at the rear of the linkage. Installation instructions for  M.O.P. Trans cooler

  1. This unit should be mounted in the rear area of your car where it is least likely to be hit. When possible build your inside cage to protect this unit. This unit should be installed using 4 ½ inch bolts through the floorboard of the car. The line connections (¼ inch female pipe) can be adapted to the lines you currently use in your car. Do not use rubber/plastic hose with hose clamps to connect to this unit. Use only approved High-pressure high temperature hydraulic line with crimped ends. Make sure all of your connections are leak proof as trans. fluid can cause severe burns and also can cause a fire in your car. Do not use damaged lines. (Safety first) Before filling this unit with water/ice connect to trans. lines and run the engine to make sure there are no leaks. Check your fluid level in your trans., as this unit will hold up to a quart of fluid. After you have assured that there are no transmission fluid leaks unit should be filled with water and checked for water leaks. If water leaks from around the fittings, these can be resealed by loosening the nut on the outside of the box and resealing around the fitting under the washer with rtv sealer. The drain should also be checked to make sure it is tight and not leaking.
  2. Use of cooler:

    I would fill the unit ¾ of the way with water (this is easiest done at home before arriving at the track) then fill the rest of way with ice at the track. However it will work with straight water. Make sure the lid is secure on the unit before you leave the pits. Between heat races the drain plug can be removed and water can be removed to refill with cool water and fresh ice. When you are ready to remove this unit from a car just unbolt the unit from the car, drain the water and use the quick couplers to unhook your hoses. Hoses are available from M.O.P. Derby Products.

*4 foot hoses p/n 48inch $30.00 a pair
*5 foot hoses p/n 60inch $40.00 a pair
* $10.00 per foot for hose after 5 feet
* Replacement cooler p/n stdcooler $50.00
* Replacement hd cooler p/n hdcooler $55.00
*quick couplers p/n .25coupler $20.00 a pair
* Ice guard installed in cooler $10.00
*Mopar installation kit $15.00

Installation instructions for M.O.P. Engine Mounted foot feed (throttle pedal)

  1. This foot feed can be used on small block Chevy engines with 350/375/400 transmissions. It may also be possible to mount this with a manual transmission but it has not been tested. All sheet metal towards the inside of the car rearward of the pedal should be removed so interference does not occur when the car bends. Make sure you have cut away enough firewall that no sheet metal will interfere with the operation of the pedal. Special care should be taken when cutting to determine how much clearance is needed after the car has started to bend. For the most part the foot feed will come back towards you so the floorboard isn’t normally a problem. If your engine has a throttle bracket mounted on it, it will need to be removed. Make sure you have a minimum of 4 return springs on the carburetor. Don’t forget to reinstall them. On some carburetors there is a stud where the factory cable hooked up. This must be removed or the linkage rod will bind on it and cause the throttle to stick. The linkage should be installed to the carburetor using a flat washer and lock washer (supplied with unit). This unit has a built in stop on the bottom of pedal arm. This is designed to hit the mounting plate at wide open throttle. To adjust this pedal assembly, You will need to mount the assembly to the engine and transmission. Then you will need to hold the throttle on the carburetor wide open (engine not running). Then push the pedal down til it stops. Hook the linkage rod up now. Adjustments to the length of the rod can be made by turning the rod in the rod ends. If the linkage rod is too long you can trim the linkage rod with a hacksaw to the correct length. Make sure you have an equal amount of threads on both ends. After installation make sure the pedal moves freely from open throttle to closed throttle (engine not running). If it binds or sticks adjustments will need to be made to the bolt going through the throttle pedal arm. This can be loosened to free up the throttle. If during the life of this product it becomes stick and adjustment to the pinch bolt does not correct the problem spray the area where the pinch bolts goes through the mounting ears with penetrating oil or equivalent. Additional return springs can also be added to make it return to closed throttle.

If installing this pedal assembly on a  fullsize 71-76 buick or Oldsmobile. You may find that it sets too far forward in the car. This can be corrected by adding 3 inch spacers in front of the mounting plate. You will also need a longer linkage rod. These parts can be purchased from M.O.P Derby Products for 20.00.

For engines with no accessory holes in the heads. A special mounting bracket is available to utilize the bellhousing bolts for mounting the unit. This is available from M.O.P. Derby Products for 15.00

 Extra linkage rods are 15.00 ea. Includes all hardware and rod ends.

Thanks and I hope you have many years of good derbying with your new Foot Feed.
